Comb Drone

A cell of the Hive that grew legs and wings. Its thorax is a six-sided case of purpur plates capped with chorus wax, and the faceted eyes see every wall of the comb at once. Drones patrol the columns in threes and let you be until you break a well; then the lid of the cell lifts, the wax inside flares, and every drone within earshot answers the call.
