Magma Ray

Kin of the dust ray that went down into the heat: its back is laid with basalt scutes, and living magma shows in the seams between them. It grazes in shoals around the magma boulders of the Depths, licking the fire rose off them. With a ship it plays like a dolphin: it will not hold a wedge but cuts across the bow in arcs, pair against pair, and where it has passed a stroke of fire hangs in the haze.
