A Gauge Card keeps a holder at a mark — a quarter, a half or three quarters: a Siphon Bus takes nothing below it, a Pouring Bus pours nothing above it, a Store Bus leaves the store everything below. So the network shares a store with the Heart, siphons and vials instead of draining it dry.
Move the mark by using the card in hand: a light on the gauge rule of the icon shows where it is. The Reckoners set a gauge rule by every sluice — counting levels is older than counting parts.
