Pages of the entry

1

Sigils are orders for automatons: a mark on a block says what to do within its circle. A sigil is not carried in your inventory — it is painted. Take the Sigil Brush, the ink of your sigil in the other hand, and press a block face: the mark shows on it. A pot of ink lasts sixteen strokes.

2

Ink is brewed in the Crucible: Ink Base — glowing ink with Bind and Craft — and each ink is the base and the currents of its task. The first inks are Gather and Stow (the entry "Gather and Stow"): the automaton picks up what lies about and carries it to a chest.

3

To erase a sigil, wet the brush: dip it in water or a cauldron, and it washes off eight sigils. Someone else's sigil cannot be erased: it belongs to whoever painted it.

4

Use the Bosun's Pipe on your sigil to set it up: its circle (how many blocks it takes), its flag, its filter. A sigil with a flag calls only automatons with a flag of the same color — the flag is given on the Slipway with a dye.
