Wax Growth

Bees build their cells as hexagons: of all shapes that tile a plane, the hexagon needs the least wall, and so the least wax. Thomas Hales proved it in 1999. At the bottom of the Hive wells the comb grows by itself out of the wax: some cells are empty, some are full of honey, some are sealed with a cap.
