Tear Drinker

A hummingbird of the Lament with a needle beak and wings of dark glass. It sips from the tear veins, and the violet tears clear in its throat to turquoise light: the more it has drunk, the brighter its gorget shines. Friendly and nosy, it circles travelers, hums at their ears and touches their cheek with the wet tip of its beak.
