Void Eel

A hunter of the haze. It lies coiled in a cleft of a void druse or at the very edge of a rift, not to be told from a crack, and goes for anything that carries a charge — for the pearl fuel of ships. Clamped to the hull, it drinks the tank. Among the islands there is no outrunning it; above the layer, in the open, it falls behind, and in a current of the void it lets go by itself.
