Distillate is not a fluid, and ordinary AE2 buses do not carry it: import, export and storage buses do not see currents. Currents have buses of their own, and they go by the rules of siphons: the Siphon Bus draws at the side or under a holder, the Pouring Bus pours from above, into the mouth, the Store Bus sees a store from any side.
A bus in the wrong place stays silent: distillate does not flow out of a mouth or pour into a spout. The bus windows are as in AE2: config slots (set a current with a vial), card slots, redstone. AE2 cards work as you know them, and the fuzzy card has a meaning of its own — a branch of the Wheel.
