Siphons link the Crucible, vessels and devices: distillate runs along them by itself, without your hands. A siphon is a glass tube in bronze clamps; it flows like water: down and level, but never up. A siphon at the side draws distillate from the Crucible, a siphon above the neck fills a vessel — so a vessel stands below the Crucible.
A siphon takes a part from a Crucible or a vessel only if some holder down the tube will take it right now — and passes it straight there. A vessel's brand calls its own current; the fullest of what is awaited leaves the Crucible first. The nearest holder comes first, equal ones take turns. Poured into a Crucible from above, distillate mixes by the rules of the Wheel.
There are no plugs: a current with nowhere to go is never taken in — it stays in its holder, and a drop of it trembles at the outlet. The Loupe on such a siphon says "No receiver". Set out a vessel that will take that current, and it flows.
A gate valve shuts a siphon: the handle along the tube — open, across it — shut. A redstone signal shuts it for as long as it lasts.
A strainer siphon lets through only the current of its brand; to any other it is a wall. The brand is burned with flint and steel while that current stands in the sieve.
A Brewing Casing is forged copper in speculum sheets with runes along its band. It keeps hot distillate on its course: the Pump, the Separator and the Mixing Vat are built from it.
