Brightsteel is the metal without murk: devices made of it lose silt rather than murk into the chunk; the bright retort, band and prism, the Crystal Tapper and the bardiche are made of it. Lumenash cleans the murk around it, and its charcoal keeps that gift: throw a lumenash log into a Flux Forge, and out comes lumenash charcoal, ash-silver, with golden embers in its cracks.
Lay lumenash charcoal and a fluxsteel ingot in the forge: the charcoal draws the stagnant flux out of the steel, and a brightsteel ingot and a pinch of silt come out of the chute, and the chunk grows a little cleaner. In a murky chunk — where murk is above a third of the bed — there is no annealing: the ingot comes back out as fluxsteel. Without charcoal, too.
Brightsteel holds no murk: devices of it lose their waste as silt, not as murk in the chunk. Brightsteel sheets and a Splitting Prism make a Bright Prism — it splits without murk.
