Dissonance is the price of knowledge: it sends visions and shadows, and the Hush takes it away. Whoever has seen the Stillness in the records, broken a flowing Confluence or seen more than was meant to be seen finds their mind falling out of step. It comes in three kinds. Ripple fades by itself, drop by drop. Dissonance stays until Hush takes it away. Deep Dissonance stays forever: only the Stillness itself leaves it.
Still
MindDissonance presses. Every few minutes the mind tests itself, and the harder it presses, the likelier a vision: a clock ticking behind you, a standing fog, shadows that repeat your steps. Heavy Dissonance brings heavier visions. Things of stillmetal and things strained by three weavings press while you wear them.
Dissonance can be heard. A metronome in your hand ticks evenly while the mind is calm, wavers with Dissonance and stumbles in advance when a vision is near. On screen it stands as a small metronome: behind its glass, a scale filled with Dissonance by kind. Hover over it in your inventory to read the numbers.
