A Dissonance Gem lifts up to 12 Dissonance at once: use the empty gem and it drinks your ordinary Dissonance and darkens. It does not drink Deep Dissonance or Ripple, and while a Dissonant Eye is worn it drinks nothing.
A full gem keeps what it drank. Sneak and use it to shatter it — the Dissonance breaks free as an Unbound Afrit. The fight is hard, but the afrit drops Afrit Essence — for Occultism's red chalk. One gem per ritual.
