The Loupe

The Loupe is your chief instrument: only it brings the Codex knowledge. Every new thing you read gives notes to study entries with and reveals currents; and in your hand the Loupe shows the flux and murk of your land. Hold it on a thing, a block, a creature or the open air: after a second and a half it reads the target and shows which currents flow in it and how strong they are. A thing in a chest need not be taken out: pick up the Loupe on the cursor right in the window and hold it over the thing.

A first reading goes into the Codex: notes appear in the margins of the chapters its currents lean toward. A current you have never met before is revealed — and brings notes of Basics. Reading the same thing again writes nothing: the Codex remembers what it has seen.

While the Loupe is in your hand, the flux of your patch of land shows by the crosshair: how much of it is alive and how much murk has settled. Look for places where the flux runs full — work goes easier there.
