Operate

Operate uses a thing on a block as a player would: bone meal on a sapling, a bucket on a cauldron, a hand on a lever — it needs Fine Fingers. Fine Fingers are for fine work. They are brittle: no Plating goes with them.

Operate says to use an item on the block it is painted on, as a player would: bone meal on a sprout, a bucket on a cauldron, a bare hand on a lever or a button. The fine and retentive read it.

The filter is the item for the hand: the automaton takes it from its load, or unloads it from a storage with Unload; an empty filter means a bare hand. It presses once every few seconds — the number in the sigil's window. Whatever is left in the hand goes into the load and on to a Stow. Next: "Reap".
