The Spindle
Chapter: Artifice
A skein is not shut in glass — it is wound, like yarn.

A spindle carries a skein to a new place — to the workshop, the Conduit, the Flux Workbench. Hold a spindle on a skein: a small one winds in two seconds, a large one in six, and the threads come off onto the spindle. Use a wound spindle on a block face to unwind the skein — native threads stay native. Every rewinding costs an eighth of each thread: it goes to murk.

A greedy skein snaps the thread — feed it first. A turbulent one would burst — calm it with Lattice first. A still skein will not wind: its threads stand still. A skein unwinds no closer than three blocks to another — and closer than four, neighbors merge. A burnt or blown-up spindle snaps its skein: every thread goes to murk.
