A still retort loses not a single part: everything that breaks down reaches the Alembics, with no murk and no silt. It distills a thing a second, like a bright one. But in a murky chunk time stands in it: while the murk there is a third of the bed or more, the retort stands still and does not burn its fuel — clean the place and it runs on its own. The Stillness has no murk, so the retort runs there; its Alembics need still bands.
The heart of the retort is the Still Casing: two shells of stillmetal around a frozen drop. A Confluence makes it (a middling one): a block of stillmetal in the middle, a Hubstone, two stillmetal plates and an Hour Dial on the plinths, Still, Lattice and Tempo in the vessels. The Hubstone gives the casing its spoke of Fray and returns without it: decay leaves the retort for good.
