The Toll Cleaver strikes harder than a netherite sword and speeds your step in hand — but every blow takes a toll. Where the land is alive, the toll is hardly felt: half a unit of the flux of the chunk you stand in. Where the land is dry — on banks drunk by the Tollkeepers, in murky places — the cleaver takes blood: a heart a blow, but never below one heart. It is found in the barrels of Toll Posts.
The cleaver takes blood past your armor: it is a payment, not a blow, and neither the Rewind Weight nor the Last-Minute Watch notices it. With mastery the flux toll grows lighter, the blood toll becomes half a heart, and at last a killing blow gives change: it gives a heart back. The Tollkeepers forged such blades to take a share of every current they cut.
