The three crafts of the river villages trade in what a fluxionist needs early: the gauger sells opaline, Knotted Cords and Reckoner Records, the herbalist a shard of their region's current, saplings and Bloom Tonic, the lamplighter float lanterns and Fisher's Chowder, and buys glint wisps. Their houses stand in the game's ordinary villages; an unemployed villager takes a Wax Kettle, Clepsydra or Herb Mortar you set down and learns the craft. The workplaces are useful without a villager too.
The lamplighter sets float lanterns on the river at sunset and spears fish by their light. Buys honeycomb, salmon and glint wisps; sells candles, lanterns, cooked salmon, a float lantern in the color of their region, Fisher's Chowder, spectral arrows, a Pike Pole and a Ford Wolf Tuft, and a master sells a firefly lantern and a Flux Pebble. The Wax Kettle melts honeycomb into wax and dips string into a candle: two candles from one comb, and the little fire under it never goes out.
The gauger measures the river's rise and the hours with knots on a cord — the Reckoners' knot writing. Buys paper, string, copper, raw antimony, amethyst shards and Noon Marks; sells a book and quill, a compass, a clock, opaline, a Knotted Cord, concentrates from the gauge rod, a spyglass, and a master sells a bell and Reckoner Records from the village chronicle: a Record you read goes into the Codex as notes. The Clepsydra is a clock for a comparator: sixteen marks of the day from sunrise, a chime at sunrise, noon, sunset and midnight.
The herbalist gathers the herbs that grow along the flux and plants lumenash by the village so that murk does not settle by the houses. Buys Rippleleaf, Emberbell, Murkcap and glass bottles; sells glow berries, a weeping willow sapling, Bloom Tonic, Silt, a shard of their region's current, a glistering melon slice, and a master sells a lumenash sapling and a distillate vial. The Herb Mortar grinds a bone into four bone meal and a flower or herb of the currents into twice the dye.
