Brandling

A smoldering brand that learned to walk: the slow fire of the Ember seam crept into a fallen log and woke it. By day it lies among the fallen brands like one of them — only two dim eyes and a slow breath betray it; at night it wanders. It guards its kin: whoever chops a brand nearby, it rises against. Slain, it falls back into a brand.
