A beautifully furnished altar is a strong altar. Study Calm Stones.

Altar fittings make a Confluence stronger: more calm, less distillate, twin yield, fewer eddies, softer failure. Two give boons to a Confluence: the gear of whoever started it and the fittings of the altar. There are ten boons: calm and calm a second, distillate thrift, twin yield, fewer eddies, softer failure, draw reach, swifter distillate, sparing a thing and a lighter mid and great Confluence. Each source has its limit and the sum a common one: gear helps, but the strength is in the building.
Gear counts only for the one who started and only while they stay within sixteen blocks of the Heart: step away and its boons stop, come back and they count again. A crowd in armor nearby does not help. A thing's tooltip says what it gives; the Heart in the Loupe shows the altar's and the gear's boons apart.
A twin yield falls only to a steady Confluence — without a single eddy — and only to a thing that stacks: gear, weavings and one-of-a-kind things are never doubled. The backwater basin is still water in stone: it adds to the Heart's calm.
The flux censer is a wisp of smoke over the altar: it calms a little every second of a Confluence, and eddies come more rarely.
Speculum mirrors work in pairs: two facing each other across the middle of the altar, both turned to it. The thing is reflected — and sometimes comes out twofold.
Rune pillars also work in pairs, facing each other across the middle: their runes hold the water level, and eddies are rarer and milder.
The sluice bell rings when a Confluence fails: less murk spills, and the Heart loses less calm.
The opaline druse draws distillate from afar: vessels can stand further away, and it flows a little faster.
A Reckoner's reliquary keeps a measuring bone: sometimes a thing from a side plinth comes back to it instead of flowing into the Heart, and a little less distillate is needed.
Current banners work in a set of four, in a pinwheel around the middle at one height: a mid or great Confluence is lighter to begin and with every part.
All the fittings are on the altar diagram, as optional parts. The Loupe on any fitting tells you whether it counts and what it lacks.
