Antimony is a fluxionist's first metal: its regulus goes into quickdust, is cast with copper into speculum for instruments, and purifies distillate in the Crucible. It is a silvery-gray, brittle metal with a needle-like fracture; the old alchemists called it "the gray wolf": it devours the impurities of other metals. Raw antimony is smelted into a regulus — an ingot on which a star appears as it cools.

Without the regulus there is no quickdust, no Codex and no instruments: keep antimony in reserve.
