Crystals are your first store of currents in hand: their shards go into quickdust and flowstone, refill the pen, attune Gauge Stones and pay the Flux Workbench for a current the place lacks. Where flux has stood still for centuries, it crystallizes: crystal nests of the six primal currents — the four Springs and the two Poles — grow in caves. Each glows in its own color and rings softly when touched.

A broken crystal yields shards. A shard is flux in solid form, a reserve for a dry day: when the land by a Flux Workbench runs short of flux, the workbench draws it from the shards in its sockets. Each shard keeps its own current — you cannot mistake one color for another.
