The clockmakers' sphere is their way of measuring Tempo and a centrepiece for your study: brass rings of the equator, the meridian and the ecliptic around a cream heart of Tempo (light 5), with sparks running along the rings. You know an observatory by its round tower of umber bricks under a green copper dome and the sundial in its yard; on the gallery stand a Reckoner coffer and the clockmaker's journal.
The clockmakers were the branch of the Reckoners that measured Tempo. To count it they slowed it — and decided that a slowed current is better than a living one: what is stopped does not spoil. The Order of the Still Hour grew out of the clockmakers. The grove where they learned still lives in their last hour.
