Glints

Chapter: Alchemy

A spark of living flux can be brewed and caught. Learn Halo — it sleeps in current shards.

A glint is a living light that never goes out and a store of Halo in a bottle: released, it circles its place forever, and at the Flux Workbench it takes the place of a lantern's prism and dust. It is never born in the world on its own: the Crucible lights it. Gather three parts of Halo in the distillate — the flux of the world that sleeps in shards, crystals and quickdust — and no fewer than three parts of any other current. Throw glowstone dust in last, and a glint rises from the brew.

The heat must be gentle: at a strong boil the spark dies before it catches. The strongest current in the distillate besides Halo colors the glint's heart and trail, and three parts of it go with the glint. Three Tide shards give a Tide glint; for another color, pour in more of another current.

3

A glint circles over its Crucible for a few minutes, then dims and goes out. One Crucible never has more than three: while three circle over it, the glowstone dust will not sink. A glint is skittish — creep up on it crouching, with an empty glass bottle in hand. Once caught, it lives in the bottle as long as you like.

4

Use the bottle on a block to let the glint out: it circles that spot and never goes out again. A bottled glint carries Halo and its own current — the Loupe will show it, and the Crucible will dissolve it. On the Flux Workbench a glint stands in for the prism and glowstone dust of a firefly lantern.
