The pillars trade murk and flux in their hour: the Dawn Pillar cleans murk into flux, the Dusk Pillar grows murk for murkcaps, murk druses and the Roiled. The Dawn Pillar works from dawn to noon: every half minute it turns a pinch of its land's murk into flux. Now and then it slips and gives a pinch of murk back.

The Dusk Pillar works from sunset to midnight: it turns a pinch of flux into murk. It grows murk druses and murkcaps and calls the Roiled — and it is dangerous: mire starts where murk rises above a third of the bed. Next: "The Murk Fumer".
