The Descent Gate locks the wing of the loop that holds the Descent into the Heart: seals and a socket for a Knot Key. The key lies in the pit of the Keyhall — a round hall with door niches — under the seals of its keeper. The Keywarden is a Reckoner automaton, the warden of the ways; the creed of the loop rewound him its own way. Any Knot Key opens any Gate.
Watch the keyholes of the niches: he steps into one and out of another with a blow — the one that lit and clicked is the way out. In the second half of the fight he locks you in a pen of shoals: find the weak bead — two blows, and the pen falls. The Keywarden's Ward, his trophy, makes a Keyed Cord out of a Wayfinder Cord — twice as fast.
