Opaline is needed for everything that looks into flux: Loupe glass and Conduit lenses are ground from it, and vessels for distillate are cast from it. It is an iridescent gem from the depths: turquoise, lilac and pink play inside it, as if a rainbow had set there. It is clear to flux: opaline glass does not muffle currents but gathers them, the way a lens gathers light.
