An orb is light with no candle and no support, an Ember orb also heats a Crucible without fire, and any orb marks vessels. Glowstone dust is Gleam asleep in stone: thrown into a distillate where a single primal current has gathered, it curls around it into an orb of living flux. The orb hangs where it was placed and shines at full strength; you walk through it, and a touch takes it down whole.
Gather four parts of the orb's current and one part of Gleam, then throw the dust in last — two orbs come out. The dust gives the Gleam itself: the first pinch dissolves and leaves it in the distillate. Keep the heat gentle: at a strong boil the dust multiplies. If there is Halo in the brew, the dust gives a glint, not an orb.
Two orbs in one brew. If the dust fits two at once — say, the distillate holds both Strata and Ember — the orb whose current there is more of is born. With equal parts, the first in this row of runes: Tide, Strata, Ember, Gale, Lattice, Fray.
An ember orb is warm. Set it under a Crucible, and the Crucible will simmer over gentle heat without fire or smoke for as long as you like.
An orb marks vessels. Touch an empty, unbranded vessel with it, and the orb sinks into the bronze tag and burns the rune of its current there: the vessel will call that current along the siphons before a single part has reached it. A filled vessel is branded with flint and steel, by what is inside. To set an orb down beside a vessel, sneak.
