A Reckoner lock is a hoard on a river: its storeroom holds coffers and gauge jars with shards, quickdust, opaline, fluxsteel and Records. To get in, solve the puzzle of the water. The Reckoners dammed rivers with locks: a chamber between two gates, a keeper's hut on the bank. The keepers took their share of every current that passed through the lock — and from them, it is said, came the Tollkeepers.
The lock's storeroom is shut by a Sluice Gate — no pickaxe or blast can break it. It rises when the water in the chamber reaches the lit Marked Tile. The valves lead the water: each lets it in or out by its own measure. The Reckoners counted in measures — count, too.
In the storerooms are Reckoner coffers and gauge jars. A coffer is opened with an empty hand; quickdust unseals it, and one more thing comes out. A jar is fragile: break it with a blow or an arrow.
