The Separator

A Separator turns a compound current back into its parents: spare Drift becomes Gale and Tide again, and any current can be brought down to the Springs and Poles. It is a glass drum with brass paddles. A siphon above fills it with compound currents only; the paddles split two parts of a compound by the Wheel into a part of each parent, and a parent that is itself compound splits once it has a pair.

Siphons at its sides and below draw only Springs and Poles from the drum. A lone part of a compound waits in the drum for its pair — the Loupe tells you who waits. Nothing is lost and nothing is born: as many parts leave as went in.
