A still plinth keeps a stormy item calm: the stream from a side still plinth to the Heart never churns — not by itself, not from the item's temper, not at a crossing. The price is time: each such plinth slows the Confluence, one by about a tenth, four by almost a third. Put the stormiest items on them. In the middle of the altar it is a plain Plinth.

A still column does the opposite: when all four columns are still ones, a Confluence runs half again as fast and the streams have less time to churn, but it takes 15% more distillate. Mixed columns are ordinary. Still plinths and still columns balance each other: slow calm streams and a quick run.
