Village Trades
The lamplighter, the gauger and the herbalist: where to find them, what they sell and buy, their workplaces and houses in game villages.
Three trades of Fluxion live in river villages near the flux of the world: the lamplighter, the gauger and the
herbalist. They are ordinary game villagers with a profession of their own — trading, levels, beds and curing a zombie
villager all work as usual. They sell what a fluxionist needs early: opaline, Knotted Cords and Reckoner Records, current
shards, saplings, Fisher's Chowder and float lanterns. Codex entry —
Village Trades: reading a villager's
workplace with the Loupe opens it. Every trade by level is in the villagers reference.
Where to find them
- The mod's houses stand in game villages — plains, desert, savanna, snowy and taiga: the lamplighter's house, the gauger's tower and the herbalist's house. About half of all villages have one, usually just one. You can tell it from the street: by the porch stands a lantern on a lumenash or willow post, and each trade has its own mark — float lanterns on the water of the yard pool, a full-height clepsydra in the window, current herbs in the hothouse.
- You can also make your own villager: place a Wax Kettle, a Clepsydra or a Herb Mortar next to an unemployed villager — he takes the workplace and learns the trade. Workplaces are crafted on a plain crafting table, no Codex entries needed.
- The profession shows from afar by the outfit: the lamplighter has a wide-brimmed hat and a lantern glow at the belt, the gauger a felt cap with a brass ring and a measuring cord across the chest, the herbalist a kerchief with a sprig of herbs and a glowing vial of tonic.

Workplaces
Each workplace is useful even without a villager.
| Workplace | What it does |
|---|---|
| honeycomb (right-click) melts into wax, string dipped in the wax comes out a candle: two candles from a honeycomb instead of one at the crafting table. The flame under the kettle never goes out, so it doubles as a night light; a comparator reads the wax | |
| a water clock: a comparator reads the hour of the day — 16 marks from dawn (0 — dawn, 4 — noon, 8 — sunset, 12 — midnight). On those four marks the clepsydra chimes. In the Nether, the End and the Stillness the water stands still | |
| grinds the item in your hand, one at a time: a bone — 4 bone meal (the crafting table gives 3), sugar cane — 2 sugar, a flower — 2 dye, Rippleleaf — 2 cyan, Emberbell — 2 orange, Murkcap — 1 purple |
Lamplighter
At sunset lamplighters set float lanterns on the river — a lit lantern on the water calms the flux. He knows the river by night: spears fish by lantern light, hooks driftwood out with a pike pole, and Glints flock to his light.
- Buys honeycomb, salmon, glint wisps and glow ink sacs.
- Sells candles, a lantern and cooked salmon; from level three —
Fisher's Chowder and a float lantern in
the color of his homeland; from level four — spectral arrows, a
Pike Pole and a
Ford Wolf Tuft;
as a master — the
Firefly Lantern and the
Flux Pebble. - Fisher's Chowder is as filling as rabbit stew and lets you breathe underwater for half a minute; the bowl stays. You can make it yourself at a crafting table from cod, salmon and tropical fish.
Gauger
Gaugers keep the knot writing of the Reckoners: they measure the rise of the river and the hours with knots on a cord and a clepsydra, keep the village chronicle in knots and know where the Gauge Stones stand.
- Buys paper, string, copper, raw antimony, amethyst shards and the
Noon Mark (two for an emerald). - Sells a book and quill, a compass and a clock; from level three —
Opaline, the
Knotted Cord
and concentrates from the gauge rod (
Copper Concentrate,
Iron Concentrate); from level four —
a spyglass; as a master — a bell, Records from the chronicle (
Channel Record,
Tally Tablet)
and a map to the Flooded Archive — for 14 emeralds and a compass, with a red cross, like a cartographer's. - A Reckoner Record is read with a right-click and goes into the Codex as notes. A concentrate smelts into two ingots.
Herbalist
The herbalist gathers the herbs that grow along the flux and plants lumenash by the village so that murk does not settle by the houses.
- Buys
Rippleleaf,
Emberbell,
Murkcap and glass bottles. - Sells glow berries; from level two — a
Weeping Willow Sapling; from level three —
Bloom Tonic
and
Silt; from level four — a glistering melon slice and a current shard of his homeland; as a master —
a
Lumenash Sapling and a
Distillate Vial.
Wares of the homeland
The color of the lamplighter's float lantern and the current of the herbalist's shard depend on where the villager comes from:
| Homeland | Float lantern | Shard |
|---|---|---|
| Plains | white | |
| Desert | orange | |
| Savanna | red | |
| Snowy | light blue | |
| Taiga | brown | |
| Swamp | green | |
| Jungle | lime |
The trade window
The mod's trades have a trade window of their own: a speculum-bronze frame with a crest bearing the rune of the trade (Gleam, Tempo, Root), and the tools of the trade at the sides — the lamplighter's candles, the gauger's clepsydra, the herbalist's herb press. Experience fills a glass tube with the trade's liquid, with five level steps below it. It is still the game's trade window — trade viewers and trading mods recognize it.
