Getting started
The Star Journal, the first lens, the refractor telescope and the first night under the stars.
The whole mod starts with the sky. The journal tells you what to do next, and the telescope opens the first worlds.
1. The Star Journal
Star Journal is the book that guides you through the mod: chapters are branches of the path, stages are
goals. Every stage has a “what to do” hint. The journal is made from a book and lapis lazuli:
On your first visit the journal is already in your hand. When you complete a stage, a line above the hotbar says so and names the next one.
The first time you open it, the journal asks about the mod graphics — low, medium or high. You can change it later in the settings (the gear in the journal’s header).
Stages with a structure made of several blocks (the larger telescopes, rockets, the radio telescope, the emitter, the shipyard, the gate ring) have a scheme in the journal: you can turn it and view it layer by layer. The “Show in the world” button places a ghost of the structure on the ground a few steps in front of you (or on the block you are looking at, if it is close) — it appears from the bottom up, with a column of light above the spot. Only you see the ghost. Build over it from the bottom up: the lowest unfinished layer is brighter, the heart is golden, and blocks with something in the way are red. If you were looking at the sky or at your feet, a line above the hotbar tells you which side the ghost is on and how far. The same button in the journal removes it; a finished structure removes the ghost by itself.
2. The lens
The first lens is a polished one. A blend of sand, amethyst and clay melts into optical glass, the glass becomes a lens blank, and the blank is ground with paste and wool:
3. The refractor telescope
Place the telescope under the open sky, wait for night and right-click it. No screen opens — the sky itself changes: a crosshair in the middle, and the stars can be joined into constellations. How — in the guide “The telescope and the sky”.
4. Next
- The first constellation is the Big Dipper. The journal records the constellations you find, and shooting stars caught in the crosshair give stardust — the currency for hints.
- The Moon and the first rocket wait in the “Rockets” chapter: fuel, launch pad, cabin. See “Rockets and flight”.
- You cannot breathe in the mod’s worlds — you will need a spacesuit and oxygen.
- Once every few days a meteorite falls to the Earth: how to find the crater by its column of smoke and what is in it — “Meteorites”.
