Spirits: Occultism
The Occultism branch: a binding rite puts a spirit into a flux device — Foliot Dipper, Djinni Spinning Wheel, Afrit Brazier, Marid Well, Afrit Cinder, Dissonance Gem; the Spiritcatcher, Otherworld Opaline, miners and crushers on flux ores, Two Sights.
On NeoForge — the official Occultism, on Fabric — its unofficial port with the same content; the branch works on both Minecraft 26.3 and 1.21.1. Without the mod the branch's items stand silent, the tooltip carries a red "Needs" line and the Codex chapter Spirits is locked.
An Occultism player has spirits walking the base — foliots, djinn, afrits, marids, summoned and bound with chalk circles. With the branch they work for the fluxionist too. In the lore a spirit is a current of Soul that flows by itself and didn't freeze in the Great Stopping; that is why a bound spirit works without fuel, and an afrit's flame carries flux even into the Stillness.
Otherworld Opaline
Otherworld Opaline — opaline thrown into Occultism's Spiritfire. It is the heart of every spirit device and the bead
of the Spiritcatcher. The same Spiritfire makes a Clogged Lumenash Grate clean again.
The binding rite
A spirit device is made by an Occultism "craft" ritual: on the crafting pentacle of its tier, the bound Book of Binding of that tier in the Golden Bowl (it goes into the device with the spirit), the device's parts and Otherworld Opaline in the Sacrificial Bowls.
| Thing | Spirit, seconds | What it gives |
|---|---|---|
| foliot, 60 | carries distillate without siphons to a paired holder within 16 blocks: every 8 s up to 4 shares of the fullest current | |
| djinni, 90 | spins the nearest skein with the flux of the eight neighboring lands — a share every 5 s | |
| afrit, 120 | a Crucible on it boils hard without fuel, and it burns the chunk's murk — 0.05 a second | |
| marid, 180 | the chunk's murk into flux (0.1 a second), a dry chunk is topped up from a full neighbor | |
| afrit, 90 | in the Stillness, in hand, every 30 s thaws a 3-block circle around you; 32 charges, refilled with Ember from a vessel | |
| afrit, 90 | drinks up to 12 ordinary Dissonance; full and smashed while sneaking, it lets out an Unbound Afrit |
The Dipper's pair is set before placing: sneaking, press it on a holder — one item of the stack becomes paired. One job per place: a dozen devices in one chunk don't multiply the work. The spirit shows in the device as a little light with eyes in its tier's color.
The Spiritcatcher
Spiritcatcher — a brass hoop on a Vessel: the trace of spirits working nearby drips as distillate into the vessel
below — a foliot gives Soul, a djinni Weave, an afrit Ember, a marid Halo, one broken loose Murk. Made on a Flux Workbench after the
Spiritcatcher entry.
Miners and crushers
- Occultism's Dimensional Mineshaft also mines flux ores: opaline, niello and shards of the six primals.
- Crusher spirits give two items from opaline, niello and antimony ore.
- Flux matter in Occultism rites replaces the rare: Infused Lenses — on opaline, a Soul Gem — on speculum, a tier 3 storage stabilizer — on stillmetal.
The Otherworld under the Loupe
Otherworld blocks hidden without the third eye — stone, trees, ore — are read by the Loupe as they truly are: they flow with
Soul. Two Sights — Occultism's Otherworld Goggles and Diviner's Spectacles on a crafting table: the same goggles
give the third eye and show what current-holding devices hold.
What next
- Energistics: currents in an ME network and Kitchen of Currents: Farmer's Delight — the other branches.
- Devices and machines — flux, siphons and vessels.
- Compatibility — every mod the mod gets along with.
