Currents and the Wheel
Forty-two currents: Springs, Poles and compounds, neighbors and opposites on the Wheel, where a thing's and a place's currents come from, and where the Wheel decides.
Everything in the world of Fluxion is a current that has set: stone flows over eons, wood over years, fire in moments. A current is a kind of flux in a thing, and there are forty-two. The Crucible brews from them, Flux Workbench recipes ask for them, the Conduit strikes with them and Confluence gathers them, and the Wheel tells what combines with what.
Springs and Poles
The four Springs are the elements on the Wheel:
Tide,
Strata,
Ember,
Gale. Each passes into its neighbor: a tide carries silt and strata settle; strata warm and ember is born; ember
lifts the air and gale blows; gale brings rain and the tide comes again.
- Neighbors on the Wheel: Tide and Strata, Strata and Ember, Ember and Gale, Gale and Tide.
- Opposites: Tide and Ember, Strata and Gale.
The two Poles —
Lattice and
Fray — are not elements but directions a current is pulled in:
Lattice gathers, Fray wears away. The crystals in caves grow in exactly these six primal currents.
Compound currents
All the other currents are made of two. The first tier is made of two primal ones. A current's tier is one above its eldest parent's; on the Codex's Wheel the tiers lie in rings.
| Current | Made of | Current | Made of |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gale + Tide | Ember + Lattice | ||
| Strata + Ember | Ember + Gale | ||
| Tide + Ember | Tide + Lattice | ||
| Strata + Lattice | Ember + Fray | ||
| Tide + Fray | Gale + Fray | ||
| Lattice + Fray |
Further currents are made of compounds:
Tempo (Drift + Lattice),
Root (Bloom + Strata),
Ash (Bloom + Hollow),
Soul (Gleam + Ash),
Weave (Spark + Shift),
Halo (Weave + Gale),
Murk (Weave + Hollow),
Still (Bind + Hollow) and others.

reference.
Where the Wheel decides
| Where | Neighbors | Opposites |
|---|---|---|
| The Crucible | mix more easily | clash: the distillate loses part of the Spring thrown in |
| The riverbed puzzle | two channels in a cell merge by the Wheel | merge only in a basin — that is how Bloom comes out |
| Current guises | two tinctures blend into a compound guise | a clash: the guise tears apart in steam or dust |
| Current circles | the circle's deed follows the combination of currents | — |
A Pole sign on a riverbed board pulls a current passing through it: Ember through a Lattice sign comes out as Gleam. To a current with no combination with that Pole, the sign is stone.
Where a thing's currents come from
A thing from any mod has currents of its own — without a single line of support. The game takes the first one found, by seniority:
- A data pack by a modpack author or mod author — above everything: a modpack author knows their modpack best.
- Fluxion's own table — by the thing's name, then by a tag (ingots, logs…).
- Derived from recipes of the game and mods: the sum of the inputs divided by the output, ×0.75, by the cheapest recipe. If everything rounds down to zero for one item, one unit of the strongest input current stays — what is made of something is not empty.
- Fallback rules — by what the thing says about itself: food gives Bloom, armor Ward, a weapon Bane, a tool Edge by its durability, an ore Strata and half the currents of what it yields, a creature by its kind (a monster Bane and Fang, a beast Bloom and Fang).
That is why the Loupe almost never reads "empty", even in a big pack.
The currents of a place
Looking into empty space with the Loupe reads the flow of a place — the currents of where you stand: Tide by a river, Ember in a desert, Strata in a cave. Every place has Gale (the air around) and Halo (the flux of the world). A place's currents matter to the Flux Workbench (a current of the place needs no shard), to Current Seeds, to skeins and to guises: a guise grows stronger where its current is the place's current.
Revealing a current
A current you have not met yet is revealed by the first reading of a thing that has it, and brings 3 notes of Basics. An unrevealed
current cannot be led on a riverbed board — an outlet waiting for it shows a "?" until you read it. The entry
Currents and the Wheel asks you to reveal all four Springs: read water, stone, fire and a feather.
