Getting started
The first steps of a fluxionist: Quickdust, the Codex of Currents, the Loupe and the first devices.
A fluxionist's path begins with a single pinch of dust. After that the Codex leads you itself: it opens on the entry you can study now and tells you what to do to open the next one.
Quickdust
Quickdust wakes the flux sleeping in a block. Its recipe is on the ordinary crafting table and needs no Codex
entries: shards of the four Springs (
Tide,
Strata,
Ember,
Gale),
an antimony regulus and redstone.
- Shards grow in nests of crystals in caves where the flux has stood still for ages.
- Antimony is a silvery ore underground; the
Antimony Regulus is smelted in a furnace.
The Codex of Currents
A pinch of Quickdust on a bookshelf — the shelf crumbles, and the
Codex of Currents comes out of a whirl of currents.
Take it in hand and use it. Knowledge is kept with you, not in the book: a lost Codex is woken again from another shelf and forgets nothing.
How to read the canvas, study entries and solve the riverbed puzzle at the Desk — in the guide The Codex of Currents.
The Loupe
The first thing the Codex asks for is the
Loupe: only it brings the Codex knowledge. The opaline for its glass is
mined deep underground, near the deepslate.
Hold the Loupe on a thing, a block, a creature or the open air: after a second and a half it reads the target and shows its currents. Every new thing you read gives notes by chapter, and a current you have never met before is revealed. When an entry has enough knowledge, press Study in the Codex — the entry opens fully, and the next ones show through behind it.
More on the Loupe — what it reads, notes and the reading sheet — in the guide The Loupe.
The first devices
Quickdust wakes other blocks too — they wake up as devices of fluxion:
- The Reckoning Desk (a lectern) is needed for entries with a Riverbed Puzzle.
- The Crucible (a cauldron) is alchemy: it dissolves things into a distillate of currents and brews new things from it.
- The Flux Workbench (a crafting table) is a craft that pays with the flux of your chunk.
What to beware of
Flux taken roughly settles as murk: in smelting it down, in a failed confluence, in a cheap lens. Settled murk becomes mire —
a living blight that creeps over the land. The entry
Murk and Mire tells about it.
